Montreal, Feb 12 2021 – In order to improve the working conditions and safety of healthcare professionals, Quebec’s Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) secures sizable order of Dorma 99 respirators. With higher respiratory protection than N95 masks, the Dorma 99 will be a key piece of PPE as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. The order will add reusable respirators to the province’s stockpile, a progressive move towards pandemic waste reduction.
With the increased risk of transmission of COVID-19 in healthcare settings. The MSSS is rolling out additional measures to protect healthcare workers.
New understanding around how COVID-19 is spread has fueled demand for respirators (i.e. N95, N99) in Quebec, and across the country. The MSSS has invested in the Dorma 99 respirators to address this increased need for respiratory protection, and to supply the provincial PPE stock.
The Dorma 99 respirator (equivalent to the N99 surgical mask), was designed and developed in Quebec to protect healthcare workers. Offering exceptional respiratory protection with over 99% filtration efficiency–even more protection than standard N95 masks–it is the first reusable 99PFE-L3 respirator authorized by Health Canada and Quebec’s Commission for Health Equity Standards and of Occupational Safety (CNESST). The Dorma 99 can be reused up to 50 times in a medical environment, with 3 decontamination / sterilization protocols available, offering supply stability and environmental benefit.
By stockpiling the Dorma 99, the MSSS secures inventory to provide healthcare workers with safe Canadian-made PPE. The MSSS order reinforces the measures implemented by the government and will provide improved respiratory protection for millions of healthcare professionals in Quebec.
The MSSS released this statement on Wednesday, translated excerpt below:
[Quebec’s] Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, announces today that the Department of Health and Social Services has purchased 40,000 Dorma 99 respirators from Dorma Filtration in order to provide the network with a provincial reserve for this type of [PPE]…
“The purchase of these masks from a Quebec company is in line with our government’s desire to provide our health and social services network with a reserve of PPE while supporting Quebec’s manufacturers. This purchase helps to advance both environmental efforts and the Quebec economy.”
