Dorma Filtration is licensed by Health Canada to manufacture and distribute Class I medical devices, including 99PFE respirators, under Medical Device Establishment License 14230.

The N95 mask is NIOSH-certified and designed to offer respiratory protection for those who wear it. The “95” indicates its efficiency rate, which means that the respirator filters out 95% of non-oily particles in the air. It blocks very small particles (>0.3 microns), including droplets containing the coronavirus. This respirator is fluid-resistant and typically non-reusable. The “N” means “not resistant to oil”, and “95” is the efficiency rate.

Our respirators have a built-in filter made from electrostatic components with a filtration efficiency of at least 99% capable of capturing particles of 0.3 microns and larger. By contrast, a N95 mask has a particle filtration efficiency greater than or equal to 95%.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness. We are in the approval process for NIOSH, but are currently licensed by Health Canada to manufacture and sell respirator masks, such as the Dorma 95 and Dorma 99.

The Dorma 99 respirator is intended to be worn by healthcare professionals to protect the wearer from transfer of microorganisms, body fluids, and particulate material.

The Dorma 99 respirator (or 99PFE-L3 respirator) is equivalent to an N99 mask. Both masks can filter at least 99% of non-toxic airborne particles. As with the N95 mask, they are not efficient against oil-based pollutants, but they do offer a higher rate of particulate filtration.

A 99PFE respirator is a filtering facepiece respirator (FFR) designed to protect the wearer from harmful airborne contaminants. There are several types of filtering masks used as part of personal protective equipment (PPE) in health care, industrial or commercial environments.

Filter masks are designed to protect the user against inhalation of small particles or aerosols, including infectious particles. Respirators are categorized according to their level of filtration and are labeled “95PFE”, “99PFE” or “100PFE”. These are equivalent to N95, N99, and N100 masks, respectively.

“99PFE” indicates greater than or equal to 99% particulate filter efficiency. This rating may be paired with “-L1,” -L2,” or “-L3” to indicate that it is a surgical respirator. “99PFE-L3” means that the respirator offers at least 99% filtration efficiency, and level 3 surgical masks protection (fluid resistance, bacterial efficiency, etc.).

The entire respirator can be reprocessed and reused, including the built-in filter; one Dorma 99 can replace up to 50 disposable N95 masks, while providing improved filtration efficiency.

No, the Dorma 99 filter does not need to be changed or replaced. The Dorma 99 respirator has an integrated filter which can be decontaminated and sterilized, unlike other masks on the market. To reuse your respirator, simply clean it according to the User Instructions

The Dorma 99 is rated as a 99PFE-L3 surgical respirator (N99 equivalent). As a respirator, the Dorma 99 is intended to reduce wearer exposure to certain airborne particles*. It is designed to be fluid resistant to splash and splatter of blood☌ and other infectious material⍙.

IMPORTANT: The Dorma 99 Respirator helps protect against certain particulate contaminates but does not eliminate exposure to or the risk of contracting any disease or infection.

+ Tested against a 0.3 micron particle (mass median aerodynamic diameter) per U.S. 42 CFR 84.
☌ Meets ASTM Fluid Resistant Challenge F1862.
⍙ Meets ASTM Standard Test Method for Bacterial Filtration Efficiency F2101.

To decontaminate or sterilize the Dorma 99 respirator, refer to the steps outlined in the User Instructions available here.

Currently, it is not possible to use the Steris to reprocess the Dorma 99 respirator. For reuse in healthcare facilities, the Dorma 99 respirator is intended to be sterilized in an autoclave (121C cycle) or decontaminated using high level decontamination procedures (Clean Flow Healthcare Mini or 30% hydrogen peroxide). To learn more about decontamination/sterilization protocols, please read the User Instructions. Dorma Filtration continues to test various cleaning protocols for the Dorma 99. Health Canada has authorized three protocols above.

Dorma Filtration does not recommend this respirator for use with beards or other facial hair that prevents direct contact between the face and the sealing surface of the respirator.

To put on the Dorma 99 respirator, cup the respirator in your hand, with the nosepiece at your fingertips, allowing the head strap to hang freely below your hand With the nosepiece up, place the respirator over your nose and mouth. Make sure that the respirator rests on the nose. The bottom part of the respirator should be placed between the lower lip and under the chin, depending on the length of the user’s face. Pull the top strap over your head, resting it high at the top of the back of your head. Then adjust the strap length through the eyelets so that the respirator comfortably covers both your mouth and nose. Fasten the clips behind your neck and pull the loose strap ends to tighten to an appropriate tension.

A seal check must be performed each time the respirator is put on. Use one or both hands to completely cover the respirator filter, and exhale. The respirator should budge slightly. If air leaks at the respirator edges, reposition the respirator on face and/or readjust tension of head strap to eliminate the leakage. Once the seal check is successful, the respirator is ready for use.

For further details, read the Donning Instructions section (User Instructions).

Dorma Filtration recommends a maximum time frame of 4-6 hours to sustain comfort and breathability.

DO NOT use the Dorma 99 respirator continuously for more than 8 hours. In heavily contaminated or humid environments the respirator may reach its filtration load more rapidly. The user must be aware of the respirator’s filter load throughout use. If breathing becomes difficult, immediately leave the contaminated area and don a new/clean Dorma 99 respirator.

Before use, store the Dorma 99 respirator in its original packaging, away from contaminated areas, dust, sunlight, extreme temperatures, excessive moisture and damaging chemicals.

The Dorma 95 respirator is a reusable and washable mask with a filtration efficiency up to 99%. This respirator is designed for non-medical professionals and is proudly manufactured in Canada with a 100% Canadian supply chain. Not intended for children.

You can buy as many Dorma 95 respirator as you want. There are no restrictions regarding the quantity. Just Go on the Dorma 95 respirator product page and choose the required amount.

The Dorma 95 respirator comes in 3 sizes: S (small), M (medium), L(large).

Respirator size: measure from your bridge nose (right under the eyes), until just below the chin.

S = under 10 centimeters

M = 11-12 centimeters

L = 13 centimeters and above

We recommend performing a fit test before using the Dorma 95 respirator. To do so, place the respirator in front of your face. It must cover your nose and mouth properly, make sure that there is no room between the seal and your face. Tighten the straps for a better adjustment.

The Dorma 95 mask can be worn for a period of four (4) consecutive hours. We recommend cleaning and disinfect the mask after every use to avoid contamination.

Yes, the Dorma 95 respirator is reusable. It is an economical and eco-friendly alternative respirator mask.

No. The Dorma 95 respirator has a built-in filter. The Dorma 95 respirator is designed to provide protection from airborne pathogens. It traps 99% of very small (0.3 micron) particles.

The Dorma 95 respirator is only available on our online Dorma Filtration’s store.
